“i am nothing on my own but everything because of god.”

"When necessary we have to be willing to change..."

We are all living life with different struggles. We are all navigating life, and though we travel our own paths, we encounter the same themes and realities under different circumstances. A tarot deck is representative of the spectrum of the human experience. Each card in tarot has a traditional meaning and each deck the creator’s interpretation of that meaning. Kaila Wilde uses her knowledge and interpretation of the tarot as a personal growth tool and to create an affirmative statement + note to keep us lifted and to remind us that we are not alone.

Each week, take what you need. Leave what you don’t.

Card:

Page of Swords

Affirmation:

I am not afraid to open my mind.

Reflection:

Seeing things from a different or new perspective and open-mindedness are represented in the Page of Swords. If a large part of life is about our constant evolution, when necessary we have to be willing to change (especially how we think) in order to truly evolve; The ability to do this does not always mean that we will agree with the new perspective or change our minds. However, the willingness to evaluate a situation, a person, a belief, or a knowing with an open-mind places us in a position to affirm or expand what we know. Evolution in this manner can be uncomfortable for many of us because our compliance in having an open-mind will sometimes force us to admit that our previous perception or thought-process was wrong. Nevertheless, this concept is much larger than being right or wrong. The thing about our mind is that it is here to be filled with ever-expanding and ever-evolving beliefs and knowledge. We are not here to hold one point of view on a subject for the duration of our lives. We are here to discover multiple viewpoints and to gain an understanding of various ways to think about a thing. For example, imagine having no new or evolved or expanded thoughts compared to who you were 10 years ago - or 20 years ago. We resolve ourselves to the reality of being older in age and stagnant in mental growth and maturity when we are not willing to open our minds.

Again, open-mindedness is not a call for us to discard our current values and knowings; Open-mindedness forces us to constantly reevaluate them and ensures that we are not just flowing through life relying on the values and knowings that have been instilled in us without testing them for ourselves. One of the most amazing things about all of this is that  we may see things from a different perspective and decide that the original perspective is the wise or right perspective for us. The takeaway is that we can stand even taller and stronger in our beliefs and knowing when we have carefully considered differing and  new perspectives - it is actually how and when true clarity is found.

Application:

  • Be willing to listen. At least once, hear out the other or another side.

  • Seek out guidance from trusted allies and sources. We all have various levels of wisdom. Seek out someone wiser than yourself who can give you a different or new perspective.
