“i am nothing on my own but everything because of god.”

"If we slow down enough to listen to our mind, body, + soul..."

We are all living life with different struggles. We are all navigating life, and though we travel our own paths, we encounter the same themes and realities under different circumstances. A tarot deck is representative of the spectrum of the human experience. Each card in tarot has a traditional meaning and each deck the creator’s interpretation of that meaning. Kaila Wilde uses her knowledge and interpretation of the tarot as a personal growth tool and to create an affirmative statement + note to keep us lifted and to remind us that we are not alone.

Each week, take what you need. Leave what you don’t.

Card:

Queen of Cups

Affirmations:

I am emotionally aware.

I take care of myself.

Reflection:

Emotions are truly complex, but they become less complex to navigate as we become aware of them.

The Queen of Cups is a reminder to focus on emotional awareness and self-care.  A layer of emotional awareness can be described as understanding the wide-range of emotions we experience and how emotions affect and impact people differently. An emotionally aware individual displays compassion and frequently extends grace to those who are in need of some kind of emotional support. In many cases, this type of understanding creates an environment for effective expression and communication to take place. As a result, emotionally aware individuals will often find themselves in positions of emotional support and healing for the people around them. We must always remember that in order to be in the best position to support someone, we should be balanced and sound. This makes it extremely important for us to be emotionally aware as it pertains to self.

Often in life, we emotionally nurture and support others at the expense of our own well-being. It is a beautiful thing to be able to show up and be there for people but that cannot begin to supersede our responsibility to self. Self-care is sometimes viewed as a part of current hipster trends, but at its core, self-care is what people have always known to be true and what we all know to be true if we slow down enough to listen to our mind, body, and soul - we must take care of ourselves. I strongly believe that it is only for so long that we can prioritize the needs, wants, hopes, and wishes of others before our own; Temporarily, we may be able to put ourselves on the back burner, but we won’t be able to sustain it forever (this I’m sure of). Our concern for others cannot trump our concern for self, and that doesn’t make one selfish - it speaks to one’s insight that when self is taken care of it creates the space to better take care of others.

Application:

  • Ask yourself: Am I emotionally aware and/or equipped to handle this situation or to support this person? Be honest with yourself. If you are, handle the situation or provide the space for support. If you are not, voice that and do what’s necessary for yourself to come back to handle the situation later or to later create a space for support.

  • Practice Self-Care aka Taking Care of Yourself. What works or is required for someone else to adequately take care of themselves may not work or is not required for you. A part of the journey is taking the time to figure out what you need in order to truly feel taken care of and replenished.
